Last week, I had the honor of attending the annual National meeting and seminar of the American Academy of Matrimonial Lawyers (AAML) in Chicago. This event brought together some of the brightest minds in matrimonial law, offering a unique opportunity to delve into complex and pertinent family law issues.
The seminar covered a wide array of topics crucial to the practice of matrimonial law. One of the most compelling sessions was on Religious and Cultural Considerations in Crafting Parenting Plans. This discussion highlighted the importance of respecting diverse backgrounds and beliefs when creating parenting plans that best serve the child's interests.
Another intriguing session focused on Interesting and Exotic Claims that Complicate Divorce. This session shed light on unusual and complex claims that can arise during divorce proceedings, underscoring the need for meticulous attention to detail and creative problem-solving.
We also explored strategies for Navigating High-Conflict Parenting Disputes for Special Needs Children. This session was particularly insightful, providing valuable guidance on managing the unique and often challenging dynamics involved in parenting disputes where children have special needs.
A session that resonated with many attendees was "Avoiding QDRO Nightmares." Qualified Domestic Relations Orders can be a minefield of potential pitfalls and complications, and this session provided practical advice on how to navigate these treacherous waters effectively.
In addition to the enriching educational sessions, we enjoyed a delightful lunch with the Florida Chapter of the AAML at Gibson’s Steakhouse. It was a wonderful opportunity to connect with colleagues and share experiences in a more relaxed setting.
One of the highlights of our trip was driving to South Bend, Indiana, with dear friends to attend the FSU vs. Notre Dame game. Despite the less-than-ideal outcome, the friendship and spirit of the event were truly memorable.
Attending the AAML annual meeting and seminar was a valuable experience filled with learning, networking, and fun. I look forward to applying the insights from this event to my practice and continuing to serve my clients with the utmost dedication and expertise.
