Last weekend, I hiked the Ocean to Lake Trail, a 62-mile spur of the Florida Trail. The trail meanders through Dupuis Reserve, Corbett Wildlife Management Area, Hungryland Slough, Loxahatchee Slough, Riverbend Park, and Jonathan Dickinson State Park. A good portion of the trail is underwater year-round. Hiking is enjoyable because you leave your worries behind while on the trail. Also, exercise helps business.
Studies consistently show that exercise benefits overall well-being, including reducing stress and improving mood, concentration, and productivity. This is especially true for workers in the business world. Exercise also improves blood flow and sleep quality, reduces inflammation, and boosts energy levels. Moreover, a recent study by Aon Hewitt found that 29% of physically active employees report a 54% decrease in stress levels. Publications in “PLoS ONE” suggest that physical activity can improve productivity. A 2013 study found that exercise can help increase alertness and focus and improve cognitive function, including memory and decision-making.
A study by the University of Chicago found that companies that provide exercise programs to their employees are more profitable than those that do not. The study found that exercise leads to reduced sick days, better worker productivity, and reduced stress levels in the workplace. In addition, more physically fit employees are more satisfied with their jobs. The study also found that companies that provide exercise programs to their employees have a better image and are more likely to be awarded more significant contracts.
People who exercise regularly are better at tasks that require cognitive skills like reasoning, problem-solving, and critical thinking. Bottom line: Exercise is excellent for your bottom line.
